Halifax,Ma-June 25, 2021- Despite the weather conditions, the day started with a win for Erica Davis and her own Aire Preferred in the $1,000 .90m Open Derby on the Grand Prix Field. Erica blazed to the win over North Salem, New York’s Eric Hasbrouck’s course. Continuing on in the Grand Prix Field, Abby Brand and Perfect Game jumped to the win in the Low Child/Adult Jumper class. Abby sat down with us to talk about her trip and her horse “Lulu”.
“This is the second summer I’ve leased Lulu, I just love her. She’s really helped me gain confidence back after having a tough young horse for a couple of years. I thought the course today was fun-the beginning was sort of like a serpentine and the double to the last jump allowed for a little bit of a gallop. The footing felt solid even after the rain which was great. It’s so nice that they put part of this division on the field because there’s not a ton of places we get to show on the grass, and we really enjoy it out there.”
Next up, the High Child/Adults took over the field. Jordan Wicklund and Rockabilly took the top spot beating an impressive field of riders. When asked about her horse and the course today, here’s what she had to say:
“Rockabilly is a 12 year old Hanoverian Gelding that I have had for 4 years. He was actually purchased to be my Junior Hunter but we decided that he was better suited for the Jumper Ring. His speed, ability to land and go and turn on a dime is what makes him perfect for the Jumpers. In the barn, he is a completely different horse-he is in your pocket and just wants to snuggle, I plan on never selling him, he is just my favorite! I thought that the grass held up really well with all the rain we had and I was really impressed!”
Moving over to the Hunter Rings, Juniors and Amateurs took over. In Ring 2, Natalie Gannett won the first class of the Children’s Equitation Division and a second in the flat class to claim the Reserve Championship. Kennedy Teasdale and Valiano won two of the over fences classes which earned them the Children’s Equitation Championship. At the conclusion of the division, we spoke with Natalie Gannett.
“Hi, I’m Natalie Gannett, today I had a blast showing in the Children’s Equitation and Mini Medals with my horse, Floyd! Floyd, a 16 year old Belgian Warmblood, is the best partner in and out of the show ring, and I am incredibly lucky to own such a special guy! We were able to consistently ride through our courses which were the perfect mix of ride-ability and challenge, ending up claiming Reserve Champion! Even with the rain, Fieldstone kept the footing in amazing condition allowing Floyd and I to compete safely through our courses! I couldn’t have asked for a better start for my first day of showing this week, and I am so grateful to be able to compete at Fieldstone!”
Make sure to double check the schedule for tomorrow as the Junior Hunter and A/O Divisions have been moved to tomorrow as well as other schedule changes due to the rain.
