Halifax, MA – May 10, 2025 – Saturday afternoon brought elegance and precision to the hunter ring as Chrissy Gilbertson and Chaccolita impressed the judges to take the win in the 3’ Open Hunter Derby at the Fieldstone Spring Festival I. The pair laid down two smooth and stylish rounds to top the leaderboard in a class designed to highlight rideability, bravery, and brilliance over fences.

Hunter derbies are designed to challenge horse and rider combinations to deliver both style and efficiency. Gilbertson and Chaccolita, her 8-year-old mare, rose to the occasion with poise and polish to deliver a brilliant handy round. 

“She is just the best horse ever – such a sweet girl,” said Gilbertson of her longtime partner. Heading into the derby, Gilbertson had a plan, but like many hunter rounds, adaptability was key. “I had hoped to do some inside turns, but that didn’t quite happen, and that’s okay,” she said. “The course rode really well, and I just focused on staying smooth and letting my horse do her job.”

The class took place in Fieldstone’s newly upgraded Grand Prix ring, now outfitted with all-weather footing. Gilbertson was enthusiastic about the changes. “It’s so much more practical,” she said. “You don’t have to worry about studs or the weather, and today, after all the rain we’ve had, it was perfect. I’ve been showing at Fieldstone almost every week with her and with the horse I had before. It’s definitely my favorite horse show by far.”

Rounding out the top three were Teagan Owens aboard Congo in second and Kate Cianfaglione with her mount Polaris in third.
