Peter Wylde and Catarina Shine in $5,000 Open Welcome at Fieldstone Spring Festival

Halifax, MA – May 8, 2025 – It was a fast and flawless performance from Olympic medalist Peter Wylde aboard Catarina to take the win in Thursday’s $5,000 Open Welcome at Fieldstone Show Park. The pair posted an unbeatable jump-off time of 37.5 seconds in their second show together to top the day’s highlight event during the Fieldstone Spring Festival I.

The first round challenged riders with a bending line to start, followed by a combination, an in-and-out, and a rollback to finish. The jump-off rewarded those who could ride bold inside turns from the first single to the diagonal line, then move quickly to the in-and-out, and a final bending line.

For Wylde, Catarina is an exciting new partner, and a horse with an unconventional background. “This is only our second show together,” he said. “She was originally an event horse with Boyd Martin. We’ve always thought she had what it takes to be a fantastic show jumper. She was an event horse, but we decided she probably wasn’t going to be a five-star horse for him, so we made the switch.”

Despite only being together for a few outings, their synergy is already turning heads. “I rode her in a couple of nice classes at HITS where she was third and second. Here, she’s won both of her classes. She gives you incredible confidence. She’s very brave, she’s very careful, and now I know she can go fast too!”

Wylde credited their win to a precise game plan, as well as Catarina’s natural talent. “When we walked the course, we mapped out the fastest route possible. She’s got a big step and can turn on a dime, so I could leave out strides – like doing seven strides from the double verticals to the oxer and she did it effortlessly. Honestly, she made it look easy.”

Second place honors in the $5,000 Open Welcome went to Aidan Kennedy aboard KBS Apple Juice, while Michael Janson claimed third riding Ringo Star PS.

In addition to a big win, Wylde praised the experience of competing at Fieldstone, especially with the debut of the new Grand Prix sand ring. “I’ve always loved coming here, but the upgrades they’ve made this year are next level,” he said. “This all-weather footing is perfection, and it’s especially important in the spring when the weather can be unpredictable. The size, layout, and atmosphere of the ring are incredible. With the VIP tent alongside, it feels like a true showplace arena.”

He concluded, “Fieldstone has done a phenomenal job. You can tell how much effort has gone into making this venue beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The landscaping, the flowers, the whole property. I can’t thank the team enough. It makes a difference, and it makes us want to bring top horses here.”

Competition will continue during the Fieldstone Spring Festival I with the $2,000 Open Hunter Derby on Saturday and the $20,000 Grand Prix on Sunday. For more information, make sure to follow Fieldstone Show Park on social media or visit FieldstoneShowPark.com.
